Properties of a Statistical Model of Ice at Low Temperatures
نویسندگان
چکیده
A simple statistical model for ice is presented, based on a point charge model for H2O. To simulate this model, a Monte Carlo algorithm is constructed that samples proton configurations according to the Boltzmann distribution. The ground state of the model is numerically found to be an ordered nonferroelectric state with a unit cell of eight water molecules. The same structure has been previously proposed for the low-temperature phase of ice, called ice XI, on the basis of water-water potential calculations. The model is simulated at various temperatures, and the internal energy, entropy and static dielectric constant are obtained as a function of the temperature. The model has a phase transition towards the ground state at T = 36K, and no partial ordering is observed. This transition is compared with the phase transition towards ice XI in KOH-doped ice. ‡e-mail: [email protected] §e-mail: [email protected]

Shape Memory Properties in Cu-Zn-Al Alloy
In this research a Cu-Zn-Al alloy is produced by melting the raw materials in an electric resistance furnace and then pouring it into a steel mould. The optimum way to achieve the final analysis in the hypo-eutectoid range is determined and the influence of the alloying element, Ti on the grain size and the shape memory properties of the samples are investigated. Solution treatment (done at 850...

متن کاملEvaluation of continuum damage at different temperatures for aluminum-silicon alloy of engine piston within low-cycle fatigue regime
In this article, the isothermal low-cycle fatigue continuum damage in the engine piston aluminum alloy has been evaluated at different temperatures. For this objective, experimental data of low-cycle fatigue tests on standard specimens were used at 280, 350 and 425°C. Based on the continuum damage mechanics method, the fatigue damage was calculated during cyclic loading. Obtained results, inclu...
متن کاملA Study of Na/K Feldspar Solid Solution Using Statistical Mechanics
Thermal behavior of various solid feldspars are different, namely those of bivalent cations show no change in the distribution of Al and Si atoms, whereas feldspars of univalent cations become more disordered with raising temperature. In the latter case Al atoms migrate from the sites they occupe at low temperatures and interchange positions with the Si atoms. At high temperatures (but stil...
متن کاملEffect of Ti-microalloy Addition on the Formability and Mechanical Properties of a Low Carbon (ST14) Steel
A low carbon Al-killed Ti-added steel was produced in Mobarakeh Steel Complex in Iran. Mechanical properties and microstructural characterizations of steel in the as-cast, hot-rolled, cold-rolled and annealed conditions are presented. Dilatometery tests were carried out to measure the finishing and annealing temperatures of steel. It was found that the addition of small amounts of Ti increas...
